Voluntary Sector Forum
The Voluntary Sector Forum (Forum) is a pan-Canadian
body that provides leadership and coordination on horizontal, sector wide issues. It is
comprised of lead organizations with responsibility for horizontal or cross-cutting functions/issues,
plus regional and grassroots members to ensure a diversity of perspectives at the table
and reach into the sector across the country. The Forum replaced the Voluntary Sector Steering
Group (VSSG) at the Voluntary Sector Assembly in October 2002. The VSSG oversaw the first
phase of the VSI on behalf of the voluntary sector. The goals of the Forum are to:
- work within the sector, through pan-Canadian, provincial and territorial networks and
sub-sectors, to strengthen the sector's capacity to work effectively as a sector with
all orders of government and other sectors;
- identify new and emerging issues relevant to the voluntary sector as a whole, and to
take action as appropriate;
- communicate within the voluntary sector, with other sectors, and with the public at
large;
- build on the foundation of the VSI and its achievements;
- champion the values, principles and application of the Accord and Codes of Good
Practice.
